Music
I like Music because in Year 6 we got to make a leavers song and in normal music lessons we listen to classical music.

Our Intent
Our exciting music curriculum is designed to help children to enjoy music and flourish in this subject by:
- Engaging and motivating all pupils to respond to and interact meaningfully with a range of musical styles from different cultures
- Build the children’s skills and competence up over time so that they can express themselves through performance and composition
- Ensuring that pupils can create and play music together using a diverse range of instruments
- Have the opportunity to develop their musical interests and talents.
Implementation.
We follow a carefully planned progression of skills and knowledge from Reception to Year 6. Pupils have the opportunity to listen, compose and perform as well as learn about the history of music.
Our music curriculum covers a wide range of musical styles which allow children to access and broad range of cultural influences and which ensures that the inter-related dimensions of music - pulse, pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notation - are given similar coverage.
Our music curriculum has a spiral structure and is designed to:
- Be cyclical; so that pupils return to the same skills and knowledge again and again
- Have increasing depth; so that each time a skill or area of knowledge is revisited it is covered more fully
- Build on prior knowledge so that pupils can build on skills and knowledge that they have already learnt
- Provide ongoing feedback and demonstration to improve the quality of pupils’ musical responses over time
- Be inclusive, so that all can access learning and enjoyment through composition and performance
Each year group will be taught four units of music each year, this will ensure that there is opportunity for the curriculum to be enriched, for example with sessions from the music service, and for teachers to adapt the pace of teaching where need.
Impact
The impact of the music curriculum will be evident through:
- Pupils’ thoughtful engagement and response to music from a range of genres and cultures
- The development of pupils’ skills and competence over time so that they can express themselves through performance and composition
- Pupils creating and playing music together using a diverse range of instruments
- The development of children’s musical interests and talents
- Pupils’ readiness for their future learning
Impact will be monitored by teachers and leaders in line with the teaching and learning policy.
