Pandas

Postcard to the Pandas class

Dear Pandas,

Firstly, hello! I am Mrs Botham and I can’t wait to have you in my class. I know lots of you know who I am, but I thought I would give you a few facts about myself:

  1. I have been a part of the Brant Broughton School family for 9 years!
  2. I have a pet cat called Franklin; he is 7 years old
  3. I like being active and going to the gym.

I will be with you for the first two weeks of the new year alongside Mrs Jackson and Mr Whittakar. I am then going to be off for a little while as I am having a baby. During this time you will have Mr Clayton (who most of you have met), he is fantastic!

I can’t wait to hear all about your summer holidays and find out a little more about you once you join the Pandas in September!

Our Class

The Pandas class is a mixed Year 5 and 6 class. Pandas extend and challenge their ever- deepening understanding in all areas of the curriculum. Pandas enjoy opportunities to develop knowledge and attributes which will serve them well as they prepare for their next steps. Our oldest children take every opportunity to support and encourage the younger children. They take pride in representing the school and enjoy taking on responsibilities.

Top five things to do in Pandas class:

Go on Residential

Take part in the Church Schools' Festival

Take on a class role - Polar Bear collectors, worship leaders, setting out benches

Create a leavers' video

Have water thrown over you at Sports Day in Year 6!

Our Learning

We love learning and will be excited to share more information with you about our new learning and wider curriculum homework after the holiday.

Things to do each week to support your child's learning at home:

Spellings to be practised at home (from the Y5/6 list)

Reading: Children should read to someone or to themselves at least 3 times a week for 20 minutes.

Times Table Rock Stars/ Mathletics to be practised at least 2 times a week for 30 minutes.

Talking with children about their learning is an important part of creating a love of learning at home. Here are five great questions to start a conversation with a Panda this term:

Where would you find and which countries can be found around the Alps?

Can you describe what components are needed in order to create a working circuit?

What qualities do you think someone needs in order to be a good friend?

What is a mixture, and can you give some examples of mixtures you have in your home?

Can you describe a family member in French?

Why do different religions express their belief through the medium of art?

What is pitch, and why is it important in music?
